With the end of summer, Rimini and its hinterland come alive with new life, that of the many autumn festivals which offer many opportunities for taste and entertainment.
Here is a small guide that we have created of fairs and festivals in October and November in Rimini and in the hinterland, to enjoy the flavors and aromas of autumn.
Borgo Sant'Andrea festival
In Rimini the autumn event is every two years, in the historic centre, the Festa del Borgo Sant'Andrea.
It is held on the occasion of the celebration of San Gaudenzio, the patron saint of the city, which is celebrated on October 14th.
Art, history, music and gastronomy are the main themes, accompanied by the traditional antiques, modern antiques and artistic crafts market. Furthermore, we will be able to follow the shows and concerts, visit small exhibitions dedicated to local culture and entertainment and games for the little ones.
San Martino Fair
The San Martino Fair is held in Santarcangelo di Romagna, it is an anniversary that in autumn has long assumed the role of an important event.
A curiosity: it is also known as the "Becchi Fair", tradition has it that if we pass under the large horns hanging from the arch in Piazza Ganganelli, in the center of the city, and the horns swing... then it is better to pay attention to the behavior of the partner.
At the fair we will find market stalls and luvérie (sweets), typical products and many refreshment points. In the alleys of the village, however, there are also exhibitions of modern antiques, artistic craftsmanship, cars and agricultural machinery.
Truffle festival
Sant'Agata Feltria hosts the great national white truffle fair every year on every Sunday in October.
The square and streets of the beautiful Malatesta village are full of stalls where we can buy white and black truffles. We will also find other typical autumn products: chestnuts, mushrooms, honey. To eat instead, just choose from the numerous food stands where local restaurants offer their specialties based on truffles and mushrooms. Near the Fregoso fortress which overlooks the village of Sant'Agata we find the wine route, where local wineries sell Sangiovese and Cagnina.
Fossa Cheese Fair
The village of Talamello is the home of Fossa cheese.
The pit-matured cheese fair is another event not to be missed in Rimini in autumn. The small village, with its terrace overlooking the valley, becomes a center of taste and flavours. At the stands and restaurants in the center we will find appetizing menus based on Fossa cheese. Meetings, conferences and shows enrich the days of the event.
Polenta and berries festival
In Perticara, a hamlet in the municipality of San Leo, autumn smells of polenta and woods. Seasoned with sausage, wild boar or porcini mushroom ragù: the polenta is made with 13 species of corn rigorously ground with water.
Also not to be missed is a guided tour of the Sulfur Historical Mining Museum, which tells the story of sulfur mining in the area and houses a vast collection of minerals and rocks from all over the world.
Chestnut festival
In Montefiore Conca, the ancient Malatesta village with its imposing fortress has been the setting for the chestnut festival for 60 years now, where every Sunday in October celebrates the queen of autumn.
The unmistakable scent of roasted chestnuts can be felt already upon arriving in the town, where we will find food stands with typical products, local delicacies and chestnut-based preparations. Between a glass of mulled wine and a stroll among the stalls there will be no shortage of music and shows.
Olive and autumn products fair
In the village of Coriano, November is the month of the olive and autumn products fair. The protagonists are the oil and wine products of the area, particularly suited to the cultivation of vines and olive trees.
On display we will see ancient and modern agricultural equipment, and if we want to learn more about the virtues of olive oil we can follow interesting conferences. Music, Romagna storytellers and shows for the whole family will make the fair even more cheerful.
Festival of Tagliatella Romagnola and beans
In Misano Cella, a hamlet of Misano Adriatico a few km from Rimini, we find the local peasant gastronomic tradition.
A warm recipe, with an intense flavour, typical of autumn tables, which we can enjoy at the various food stands. The festival is enlivened by musical shows with bands ranging from smooth to pop rock, entertainment and shows for the little ones and a craft market.
Harvest and autumn fruit festival in Novafeltria
In Novafeltria we celebrate the moment in which, in the past, grapes were harvested and prepared to be transformed into wine. In the past the grapes were brought to the square, on carts decorated for the occasion and then poured into containers, where the girls and children crushed them.
It was a real celebration for the whole country.
Furthermore, it will also be an opportunity to taste traditional dishes and wines from local cellars.
